Privacy

This page tells you which personal data Wimmel uses, why, and for how long. Wimmel follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP).

Last change: 24 October 2026.

Who is responsible

Wimmel is a private project of Rafael Matias in Switzerland. For all questions about your data, write to [email protected].

When you open a page

Cloudflare, Inc. carries all traffic between your browser and the server of Wimmel, and protects the site from attacks. For this, Cloudflare gets your IP address, your browser and the pages that you open. The server of Wimmel keeps no log of your visits.

Wimmel uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count the page views and to measure how fast the pages load. A script of Cloudflare does this in your browser. It sets no cookie and makes no profile of you.

The map

Your browser loads the base map from swisstopo and the terrain from Mapterhorn. Their servers and their network providers (Amazon CloudFront and Cloudflare) get your IP address and the part of the map that you look at.

The feedback form

When you send the form, the server puts your message, your e-mail address (if you give one), the page, the language and your browser into an issue in a private GitHub repository. Only the operator of Wimmel can read it. We use your e-mail address only to answer you.

We delete the issue when we have dealt with it, at the latest after one year.

Against spam, the server keeps your IP address in its memory for one hour. It does not write it to a disk.

Cookies and storage in your browser

Wimmel sets one cookie, "lang", which keeps your language for one year. Your browser also keeps your language and your last searches in its local storage. This data stays in your browser; only the cookie goes to the server, so that it shows the pages in your language. You can delete it in the settings of your browser. The site then shows the language of your browser.

Data outside Switzerland

Cloudflare, GitHub and Amazon (CloudFront) are companies in the USA. All three are certified under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the Federal Council recognises as adequate protection.

What Wimmel does not do

Apart from the page views of Cloudflare Web Analytics, Wimmel has no analytics. It has no advertising, no tracking and no profiles of visitors. It does not sell your data or give it to other parties.

Your rights

You can ask which data about you we keep, and you can ask us to correct or delete it. Write to [email protected]. You can also make a complaint to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

Changes

We can change this page when Wimmel changes. The date at the top shows the last change.
